Bit political over here.
<<The All Women’s Action Society described the verdict as “disturbing” while the Women’s Aid Organisation called it “confusing and raised alarm bells”>>

Star, 24th March 2007:Christian group troubled by verdict on non-Muslim.

Though, as a medical person, I know very little about the law, but I read with concern about what's happening to our Contitutional rights nowadays.

Puteri Pacific

Just about two days before the course, only did I received the confirmation letter from the director's office. So, I had to make a hotel booking quickly.

The Puteri Pacific Hotel is located just beside the Persada Johor International Convention Centre, where the venue of the course was. This is supposingly a four-to-five star hotel, which means my accomodation claim would not fully cover the expenses. I then managed to find a partner to share.

He made a call to the hotel but unfortunately was told there was no more room available. This time I thought it could be very troublesome that we might have to find other hotels to stay. I called a friend in JB and was given a list of 'affordable' and nearer hotels, but all they seemed were not within the walking distance.

In the evening, I called the hotel's toll-free line again, but was again dissapointedly told they were fully booked.

I then logged into the internet and was surprised to find there was room available through an agent. I quickly made an online booking. Thereafter, I noticed there were several agents more with different prices.

I was still very sceptical about the online thing not until we reached there, and was delighted that we finally got the room.

The room rate was quoted RM 239.20 (including taxes). I enquired whether if there was discount for government servant and was told it cost RM 195 nett, but unfortunately that was not applicable to us because we had booked the room through agent.
Nevertheless, it was still the best deal considering the course venue was just next door and within walking distance.
Despite some negative reviews in the internet forum, we didn't encounter anything unsatisfactory. Upon check-out, we were allow to split the bill, which cost us only RM119.60/night per person, by the way, was within our budget.

Postgraduate Endocrine Course

For the past years, I have been a workaholic (though many may not believe it) and I had accumulated a total of 84 days for this year. If I don't take some of the leaves, it will be 'burnt'.

As I was planning for a holiday somewhere, but had not decided on one; then came a timely opportunity to spend the weekends in Johor Bahru.

This time, it was fully sponsored by my employer.

Here was the Postgraduate Endocrine Course organised by Monash University Malaysia, under the auspices of MEMS.

It was held at the Persada Johor International Convention Centre.
There were many good topic discussions and it was great having listened to lectures given by the Who-Is-Who in the Endocrinology community.
Here was the particular 'one' I stalked throughout the course. I simply loved her lectures.

First CPD

So, this was the first CPD (continuous professional development) event of the year for me. Well, thanks to drug company again, a poor government servant got to stay in a 5-Star hotel.
Though I've not been staying in many hotels, this one next to KL Central was regarded the best hotel for me so far. First of all, I was very impressed with the lobby's deco. Sound a little bit jakun, I really liked the setting.

Security was also good. Only those who stay in that particular floor get access to it, as one needs to insert the key card in the lift first.
The room was very spacious. Good lighting. Cigarette-odour free. Luxurious facilities, including plasma TV. Beautiful KL view.
One of the highlights of the hotel, is this bath area; occupied half the size of the whole room and surrounded by mirrors as well as sliding doors.
My friend didn't like the idea, because he feels weird bathing in full view of other occupant in the room, even if it is his wife. He feels insecure if ever he needs to share room with colleague, because the sliding doors have no lock, and he worries if a slightest 'wind' would blow the doors open exposing himself for a free show.

But luckily, the four of us, guys, didn't have to share rooms.

Overall, I enjoyed the one-night stay, and just hope I won't get surprises in two weeks time, like what happened to my friend and me last time.
